Gravitas 04:21
Gravitas Make believe when you stand beside a tree You are now likened to yourself A little stronger now, a little rooted in the shelf of earth from where you came You & me, we’re as boring as each other But isn’t everybody else A little slice of some perspective Is a richer kind of wealth Woah oh oh don’t take it personally Woah oh oh you’re not fragile anymore Woah oh oh we’re in it terminally Woah oh oh you’re loved past your flaws Maybe it’s because we’re closer to the poles That we get to feel the pull It’s magnetic so it’s logical So I’ll assume the character upon my leg and in my heart So don’t be alarmed CH. Woah oh oh don’t take it personally Woah oh oh you’re not fragile anymore Woah oh oh we’re in it terminally Woah oh oh you’re loved past your flaws Vs3. Just start begin it And keep it on the wall if need be You’ll find a point where caution is a memory Dive in, divulge, and keep it clean And drop the men who treat you mean Cause this love This love Real love is keen. BRIDGE: From crazy in the bleachers And bulky in your jerseys From breakable and easy to forget To steady on your stages And armour-less in high seas To bendable with gravitas to let CH. Woah oh oh don’t take it personally Woah oh oh you’re not fragile anymore Woah oh oh we’re in it terminally Woah oh oh you’re loved past your flaws

Stage whispers and panic We rush for the door Whilst I call ahead you put your foot to the floor Translator, you’ll need to speak for me I choke on these sentences Can’t get the words out This private pain, this mass devastation The heart isn’t beating and it won’t beat again My heart will never be the same These cautionary measures taken Couldn’t stop this one from breaking Tide had turned and taken the full away and empty took it’s place There’s a heart beating uncontrollably It’s mine Felt the strong medication as it slowly ejected The last of a life that my body had rejected See there’s no-one to blame At least we’ve still got each other At night you reassure me one day I’ll make a good mother This private pain, this mass devastation The heart isn’t beating and it won’t beat again My heart will never be the same These cautionary measures taken Couldn’t stop this one from breaking Tide had turned and taken the full away and empty took it’s place There’s a heart beating uncontrollably It’s mine So we let the dust settle We trust there’s some sense To this unending chaos So we take no offence I lie in your arms, you’re strong by my side But every now and then I catch you wiping your eyes. This private pain, this mass devastation The heart isn’t beating and it won’t beat again My heart will never be the same These cautionary measures taken Couldn’t stop this one from breaking Tide had turned and taken the full away and empty took it’s place There’s a heart beating uncontrollably It’s mine

about

Four years in the making, 2019 sees the release of their independent, crowd funded and self-titled new album.

Victoria de La Harpe (Vocals, Acoustic Guitar) comments on the lengthy recording process of the highly anticipated album, ”It’s been an evolution. Shotgun Tori & the Hound started crowdfunding (as a duo) in early 2015 for an EP that was to be recorded in NYC. Due to a few roadblocks, and with the crowd funders support, we changed direction and recorded a full-length, full-band album in Johannesburg at The Bass Station with Barry Berk.

Guest artists on the album include Kobus de Kok Jnr (Black Cat Bones) , Lucy Kruger, Laurie Levine, Brad Wooldridge (Crystal Park) and Bronwyn Krige (Them Particles).

She goes on to add,”The album started out as something I'd envisioned to be small and pretty, and it's turned into something so much more than I could ever have imagined. The songs are stories of moments in time - I feel that the writing of them pulled me through some hard times and I hope that they can do the same for somebody else.We are very proud of these songs”

about

Shotgun Tori & the Hounds Johannesburg, South Africa

Shotgun Tori & the Hounds is an indie/folk band from Johannesburg. They make music to move you, and to move to. It’s honest- to-goodness, raw, foot-tapping road-trip music for warm-bodied, hot-blooded humans.

Between her sweet, road-worn vocals and his guitar-driven melodies, what you get a fresh soulful mix of country and folk, dynamic in execution and ambitious in range.
